We have firsthand experience with Santa Monica College leadership and can attest that SMC students are highly worthy of investment: Margaret serves as Board Chair at Santa Monica College Foundation and Lauren is an SMC Alum. We are asking you to join us in fueling the success of Santa Monica College (SMC) students. Not only do SMC students have grit and talent, but they strive to make a better world. Over half are first-generation college students. They are overall #1 in transfers to UC and Cal State campuses as well as #1 in transfers of Black and LatinX students.
The pandemic has heavily impacted SMC's most vulnerable students, including foster youth, Veterans, single parents, and homeless students. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, over half of Santa Monica College students were struggling with food and housing insecurity. While resilient SMC students are emerging from pandemic circumstances, they are now facing new challenges like the increased cost of living and inflation that make it more difficult for them to get their basic needs met.
Your donation will be put to work immediately to provide targeted assistance where it is needed most to ensure students stay enrolled and complete their degrees.
