The Judith Douglas Scholarship for Excellence in Dance is awarded to returning or transferring students who exhibit excellence in dance technique and artistic expression. Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA to be eligible for the award.
The scholarship honors and celebrates Judith Douglas, Chair of the SMC Dance Department and Professor of Dance at SMC from 1974 - 2021. Judith’s immeasurable love for dance and dance education has enriched and inspired thousands of students, her colleagues, and the entire SMC community. She is the founder and former Artistic Director of Global Motion World Dance Company (formally Folklorico de SMC). Additionally, Judith has taught Dance in American Culture and Dance History as well as all levels of Ballet, Modern dance, Jazz dance, Tap dance, African dance, and Mexican dance, instilling passion, dedication, and joy in her students along the way.
