This scholarship honors the legacy of César Chávez, an icon of the LatinX community who led the movement against low wages and the unfair treatment of all farmworkers. With Delores Huerta, César Chávez led the formation of a farmworkers union, a coalition that fought for workers rights, civil rights, and fair treatment.
In 2014, President Barack Obama declared March 31, César Chávez Day, a federal commemorative holiday to honor the life work of César Chávez. California is one of eleven states that observes César Chávez Day.
Help us honor and celebrate the life achievements of César Chávez by supporting a scholarship that will be awarded to SMC students who have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership, and volunteer service to the community. In the name of César Chávez, we want to help advance the education of students who will be inspired to be among the next generation of Latinx leaders.
