Celebrate a Father's Legacy
Art’s Table is celebrating it’s 10th Anniversary, Father’s Day Weekend, and honoring it’s namesake, Dr. Art Verge, respected waterman, city historian and SMC history professor and registrar.
Inspired by his love of people, cultures, and travel, Dr. Verge helped pioneer SMC’s Study Abroad program, opening minds and the world of immersive travel to thousands of students during a four decade tenure teaching popular classes in California and Latin American history.
In honor of his legacy, Art’s Table and the Verge family in partnership with the SMC Foundation, established the Art Verge Study Abroad Scholarship in 2014, a commitment to helping shape future global citizens and offset the cost of travel for 10 selected students participating in SMC’s South Africa Winter Study in 2015 and 2016. Since then, scholarship students bound for England, South Korea, Copenhagen, Denmark, St.Petersburg, Russia, Buenos Aires, Venice, Italy, Costa Rica, and Florence, Italy have explored the world and diverse populations, participating in community-based service programs altering perspectives and fostering understanding and friendships.
