Bill's family has established the Dr. William S. King Legacy Scholarship for STEM Students to celebrate his life and honor the value he placed in education. William (Bill) Stanley
King passed in April 2021. He was a remarkable man. Bill’s mother, grandmother, and
aunt recognized his math ability and wanted him to succeed in mathematics. Bill received
his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley, his Masters in
Mathematics/Physics, and his PhD in Applied Mathematics and Engineering from UCLA.
Bill worked during his professional career as a research scientist, engineer, and
professor.
He had over 40 years of aerospace engineering experience and was nationally recognized
as an expert in the field of fluid mechanics. Bill was an Associate Fellow of the
American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He received numerous awards and
honors including a California Legislature's commendation for Contributions to Science,
and professional achievement recognition by the National Black Engineers Society.
Teaching and mentoring were an important part of Bill’s life. He was a professor of
mathematics at Santa Monica College for over 20 years.
